Soul Mate or Sole Mate?

week 15Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.  John 15:13

I completely agree with Gary Thomas on this subject.  I think that our world has painted us a picture of a perfect relationship that can only exists with our one true “soul mate”.  So many people seek after this only to find disappointment.   Couples find themselves surprised that this “soul mate” isn’t perfect.  Marriages end because if their spouse isn’t perfect then they obviously aren’t really soul mates.  This couldn’t be farther from the truth.

We all have to realize that we are all sinners and we all make mistakes.  We all can work to be better spouses and to make our marriages better.  We also need to support each other and encourage one another as we work to be more Christ like.  Loving your spouse isn’t always easy- but it is what God has asked us to do.

I know for me, this is something I do have to work on.  I often think that things should be perfect and when they aren’t I get upset.  I am working on this and I am asking God to help me in this area as well.

Gary Thomas says “Love isn’t based on feelings but on sacrifice.”  I think I personally focus more on the feeling part and forget that I need to be sacrificing.  This week I am going to focus on sacrificing for my husband, being a better wife, a more understanding, loving wife.
