You have probably heard me make this statement, “Church should not be boring!” What you may not know is my heart behind this statement. When I was in the 10th grade I found myself at a crossroads. My life was going downhill quickly. I was doing things I said I would never do and I was going down roads I said I would never go down. I was living a life that would either lead me to a life of addiction or spending time in jail. Needless to say, I was in a tremendous amount of emotional pain and I knew I had to make a decision. Was I going to continue down the path I was on or was I going to choose a different one? I wanted out of that life, so I chose to go in a different direction.

The problem was I wasn’t sure what to do or where to go. So, as I sat thinking what I was going to do, I began to recall memories of a youth ministry I went to when I was in the 7th and 8th grade. I always had fun when I went there. Actually, it was so awesome that I went every time the doors were open! I learned about Jesus while having the time of my life! We played games, sang songs, went on retreats, went to football games, had lock-ins, went to concerts?WE HAD FUN! At that crucial moment in my life, I remembered that youth ministry, so I decided that is the place I would go seeking a new beginning. To make a long story short, not long after returning, I said “Yes” to Jesus. I surrendered my life to Him and have been on an amazing adventure ever since!

I share this to say, had that youth pastor and the leaders not made church fun, I would have never went back. I would have never heard the Good News of Jesus Christ. I would have never heard the invitation to enter into a relationship with Him. I would have never been set free and discovered the hope and freedom and love that comes from being in that relationship. I would have missed it all, but I didn’t because there was a place that knew that being a Christ follower should be FUN and not boring!
At Momentum Church we first and foremost want to exalt and lift up the name of Jesus! Proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ is of upmost importance and we will NOT waiver from doing that every Sunday! But, we will have fun doing it! We have to! Why? Because we never know when someone, just like me, will walk through the doors seeking a new beginning, looking for healing from¬†emotional pain, desiring purpose in life, or searching for truth. I want that person to say, “WOW! I had no idea this is what church could be like!” I want to shatter the stereotype that church is boring! Then, like I did so many years ago, prayerfully they will want to stick around and be transformed by Jesus!

We are starting a new series Sunday called “At the Movies.” I will be preaching from several 80’s movies. We have lots of surprises planned every Sunday! We will have fun and lots of it! The name of Jesus will be proclaimed and THE TRUTH will be declared! Come and experience it this Sunday! Bring someone with you so they can experience it too!

See you Sunday,
Barry
