Hey Momentum!!

You may have heard about Visible Church Week on the announcement videos or from Barry during one of his recent sermons. I want to take another step and go a little deeper to explain what it is and why we’re doing it.

I know it’s the title/subject of the last series Barry preached on but it’s also going to be a week of service projects. A week where we, as the body of Christ, come together to serve and be the Visible Church. In Matthew 5:14-16 Jesus tells of a city on a hill that cannot be hidden. He goes on to say that “In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your Heavenly Father.” And a little later in Matthew 7:20 Jesus says “just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions.”

Visible Church Week will be our annual uncommon approach to ministry. Almost like concentrating sunlight into a beam to start a fire, we will concentrate our efforts into one week to spark the interest of others to do the same throughout the year. Our goal is to show the love of Christ, physically, so that everyone who sees our actions will ask the questions: Who are these people? And why are they doing this?

VCW is September 21st through 28th and we have a variety of projects for you to get involved with despite your skill level. There will be projects everyday with different times to accommodate different schedules. All projects can be found on our website with links to sign up. But, if you’re not internet savvy, you can always find me at the VCW display in the lobby before and after service for help to sign up or for any questions you may have.

Also, we encourage you to perform your own acts of kindness throughout Visible Church Week. We highly encourage you to be creative with them, and, if the opportunity arises, to spread the good news of what Christ has done for you. The Acts of Kindness can have many forms: writing a note of appreciation to someone, paying for the coffee of the next person in line, helping your neighbor with a project they have been putting off, or even offering to babysit for someone so they can have a date night. Think of a need that, if someone did for you, you would appreciate greatly and do it for someone else.
