Most of you are aware of Momentum’s “Welcome Home Project.”  If you’re not, then let me share with you some very exciting news.  Momentum Church has a contract on a building that is located at 3330 Hwy 59, which is just two minutes north of Wal-Mart.  This is an exciting time for Momentum Church as we prepare for our new home!  We have had several questions about the specifics of the “Welcome Home Project.”  I hope to answer those questions through this blog.  It is a little long, but please hang in there and read it all the way through.

The “Welcome Home Project” has three components that we are asking you, the congregation, to prayerfully consider committing to.  The first component is to make a commitment to the Biblical tithe, if you are not already doing so.  Having a new building gives us amazing opportunities to do more ministries, but will also increase our overall operating expenses.  Your tithe goes towards those ministries and expenses.  Now, you might be asking, “What is the Biblical tithe?”  The tithe is 10% of your finances.  In Malachi 3:10, God says, “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house.  Test me in this and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.”

Here’s the deal, this scripture teaches that when we come together and bring our tithes to the storehouse (the Church) then there will be an overflow of resources to do the ministry we are called to do in this community.  Currently, only 19% of Momentum Church is committed to the Biblical tithe.  Can you imagine what would happen if that number increased to just 50%.  Can you imagine the ministry that could take place…we could increase the number of people that we feed through our community meal, we could give more money away to churches and ministries that may be struggling to make ends meet, we could help more folks with food and bills and housing issues, we could start making plans for a second campus of Momentum to reach more people with the Good News of Jesus…and this is just to name a few of the things!  We could take some RADICAL steps in becoming the Visible Church!!!

And what’s crazy to me, according to this scripture, when we are obedient with the tithe we are blessed!  We get blessed when we give our finances away!  God says, “Test Me in this and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it!”  This is absolutely amazing!!!  You know, in my years of ministry, I have NEVER heard someone who made a decision to start tithing regret their decision a few months down the road.  In fact, I hear the exact opposite!  I hear people saying, “Why didn’t I start sooner” or “I have experienced so much joy in giving” or “I didn’t know if I could do it, but since I started I have seen God do miracles in my life!”  I can tell you for me and my family, I can’t imagine NOT tithing!  There is great JOY in bringing my tithe to the Lord and giving back to God what He has blessed me with.

If you are not currently tithing, then I challenge you to commit to the Biblical tithe for at least 6 months.  At the end of that 6 months I know you will be able to look back in awe of how God provided.  I promise that you won’t regret it!

The second component of the “Welcome Home Project” is giving a one-time sacrificial gift to the new building.  The contract we have on the new building is dependent on financing.  We are praying and believing that we will put $50,000 or more down at the time of closing.  I am asking that you simply pray and ask God what He would want you to do.  Listen to Him through prayer and I believe He will speak it to you.  Be ready to respond in faith!!

And the third component is to give a monthly pledge, above and beyond your tithe, towards the building.  There are monthly payments that we will be making to the bank, so the monthly pledges are necessary.  You may do a $50.00 above and beyond monthly pledge (which is a meal at a restaurant for a family of four) or you may do a $500.00 above and beyond pledge.  Whatever the Lord lays on your heart will be a great gift!!

CommCard

Sunday October 20th will be Commitment Sunday.  This is when we are asking you, the congregation, to bring your commitment cards and your gifts to Worship.  Until then, I want you to pray and seek the Lord!  Use the four week prayer guide we have for the “Welcome Home Project.”  Listen to what God is speaking to you and respond to Him!

I am so excited about the future of Momentum Church!  I look forward to see what happens as Momentum comes together to be the Visible Church in this community!

In Him,

BarrySig
